Minutes of December 12, 1982 Meeting

Meeting-Date-Place-Time
The fall quarterly meeting of the White River Valley Historical Society was held Sunday, December 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the College Center Cafeteria at The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri, with President Fred Hartman presiding. Kathleen VanBuskirk gave the invocation.

Attendance
Greetings were extended to the sixty-five members and guests who introduced themselves and signed the attendance register.

Minutes-Treasurer’s Report

Minutes of the September 12 meeting were approved as printed and a bank balance of $3516.18 was reported by the treasurer.

Report of Secretary
Present paid membership is 251 + 9 gift memberships. Prepared and displayed materials sold at the Genealogical Workshop in Springfield. Pres. Hartman, Lucille Brown and your Secretary netted $102.00 for the society.

Revised Historical Essay Contest Rules and sent copy to all high schools in Missouri area. Contacted Dr. Juanita Kirk of the S of O faculty who consented to serve as judge.

Correspondence
Taneywood Restoration Project and Bliss Family Genealogy information given in Bits and Pieces Column.

Constitution and Bylaws Changes
Viola Hartman gave a second reading to the proposed changes to the Constitution: Article IV, section 1 - amend by inserting after the word treasurer the phrase "for an unspecified time."

Bylaws: Article III, section 3 - amend by inserting after the words the quarterly, the phrase "transact any business of the society between meetings deemed necessary for the betterment of the society" and moved their adoption. Motion adopted.

Meeting Cancellation Information
By general consent it was decided that if a meeting needed to be cancelled due to inclement weather the S of O switchboard would be notified and members in doubt could call for verification.

Branson Community Building
Artie Ayres, Historic Sites Chairman, introduced Joe Schwaab and Paul Penner of the American Legion Post #220. Mr. Penner gave a brief history of the Branson Community Building and asked for the support of our society in preserving same.

Proposed Revision to Bylaws
The Secretary proposed a revision (first reading) to the Bylaws pertaining to dues to read: Section la. Dues for member and spouse shall be $12.00. Each would have a vote and one quarterly shall be sent.

Program
James Powell, program chairman, introduced Lynn Morrow, Galena School Teacher and area historian, who spoke on "History and Folklore: The Case of the Delaware Nation and the Yocum Silver Dollar." The presentation was accompanied by illustrative slides.

Announcements
The President called attention to the books on display and suggested that they would make excellent Christmas presents.

Next meeting is scheduled for March 12.
