The Past In Review . . . News items from the Taney County Republican, published in Forsyth, Missouri every Thursday by B.B. PRICE and S.J. WILLIAMS. Lawrence CARROLL was editor and the subscription price was $1.00 per year, in advance. The issue of November 28, 1895 was the first, and this paper is still being published today. The date of the paper precedes the news items appearing in that issue.

Mar 26, 1896-Mrs. Grant BOSWELL made her husband a present of a young son yesterday. The box supper at the courthouse on Saturday was fairly well attended, with proceeds of $7.50 to be devoted to building a fence around the church . The plan of selling boxes on the shadow system caused great amusement.
Protem News - Mrs. Ben DRAKE, scarcely 15 years old, committed suicide Saturday, the 21st, She had been married only a few months.
The infant child of Mr & Mrs AWBREY died last night.
There is to be a box supper at Helphrey Schoolhouse in the near future.
There is a very flourishing Sunday School at the Acton schoolhouse, one of the best the neighborhood has had for some time.
Apr. 2, 1896-Mrs. A.F. MORRIS, died Sunday. She was a victim of consumption and was buried in the cemetery northwest of Forsyth.
One day last week, Mrs Charles BRANSON who lives near Kirbyville, and who is a daughter of Mart HENSLEY, attempted suicide by hanging herself. She was discovered in time and was revived.
Swan Items-A Prominent railroad engineer was here last week examining as to the feasibility of the route from Bull Creek and Swan Creek, by way of the low gap and Swan.
Apr 2, 1896 - Mrs. Mary NOBLE returned from Oklahoma last night, bringing with her an infant grandchild, whose mother died three months ago.
Esquire PARSONS of Taneyville, moved out of the county Sunday in search of employment at his trade of carpenter, and Taneyville is again without a Justice of the Peace.
A 10 month old roan heifer calf strayed from the farm of Mary NOBLE, in the Ray School District. A suitable reward for information leading to its recovery.
Apr 9, 1896 - As Mr. John SPERLIN of Swan, was going to Chadwick last Tuesday with a load of ties, he was thrown from his wagon and one of the wheels passed over his ankle. He had to lie by the roadside till assistance came, when he was brought home. His foot and ankle were severely injured.
The Sons of Veteran’s Camp and G.A.R. Post at Kirbyville, will give a grand oyster supper on the 18th of April. Oysters will be served at 15¢ per dish, or 2 dishes for 25¢. There will be plenty of good music.
April 16, 1896 - Eighteen wagons from this county went to Chadwick this week to haul 19 head of elk to the Taney County Park . It has taken longer than expected to get the elk together for shipment at Ottawa, Illinois, and the teams have returned without them. They will go again.
Apr 23, 1896 - Seven wagons, each containing one elk, arrived in town Tuesday, and made as great a sensation among the small boys of Forsyth as an ordinary circus . The elk were enroute to the Taney County Park . Mr. W.F. HUNT had charge of their transportation. Four elk were killed in the attempt to catch and round them up in Ottawa, Ill. and four more died in transit.

Apr 30, 1896 - Mrs. COFFELL, an aged lady, living south of Forsyth, died of consumption last Friday.
Mrs. Leonard McHAFFIE gave birth to an eleven pound boy Tuesday.
Maine CLARK, the 13 year old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.I. CLARK, died at the home of her parents near Taney City, on the 24th of April.
Robert E. CLINKINBEARD, aged 81, died at his home on White River, 8 miles below Forsyth last Friday. Uncle Bob was widely known throughout southwest Missouri, he having located in Laclede County in the early 30’s.
J .A. HAMMOND, editor of the Ozark Herald, has sold an 8 col. press to the Taneyville movers for $50.00. They have secured a quantity of type at Springfield and will begin publication of an independent newspaper with Mr. HOGAN in charge. Editor HAMMOND is making a great success of the Herald.
May 7, 1896 - Cal COOK can be found among the hills with his cattle.
May 7, 1896 - Ed BARKER, J.H. BROWN, John PERKINS, Joe DILKS and J.M. JENNINGS left for Newport, Arkansas last Thursday, on one of the largest rafts of cedar that has ever passed this point on White River. They expect to realize about $550 from the venture.
Mrs. I .W. SNELL left Tuesday for her mother’s home in Grundy County, where she will undergo medical treatment.
Swan Items - "Uncle" George BURGER will give you a recipe for pickling potatoes to keep them from sprouting.
Ira CLINE, MERRICK & LEE’s blacksmith, folded his tent and silently stole away, leaving the aforesaid firm holding a sack with a hole in it.
May 14, 1896 - Judge LINZY and Mrs. L. Florence VANZANDT of Kirbyville, were married at the bride’s residence by Rev. Leroy THOMAS, last Monday.
