MINUTES OF MEETING SEPTEMBER 8, 1985

Meeting:
The Society held its first quarterly meeting of the 1985-86 year at the Friendship House,

The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, on September 8, with President Penelope Willard

Place
convening the meeting at 1:30 p.m.

Invocation
Dr. Alice Nightingale gave the invocation.

Attendance
Thirty four members and guests signed the attendance register and introduced themselves.

Minutes
Minutes of the June 8 annual meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report
Bank balance of $1623.67 was reported.

Correspondence
Correspondence announcing materials available and scheduled area events was read.

Editor’s Remarks
The Editor of the Quarterly asked for articles for publication and help in proof reading each issue. Larry& Marge Westerfield and Robert Gilmore volunteered.

Committee Reports
Library: It was announced that Lucille Brown had been in a serious automobile accident and now was a patient in the hospital.

Museum:
Jerry Gideon has accepted this chairmanship.

Publicity:
Townsend Godsey

Historic Sites: Chairman James Horst told of the progress on the Finley Bridge Site and

the church at Republic.

Nominating:
Artie Ayers has been appointed.

Unfinished Business
Fred Hartman reported that all business in the Hollister Downing Street Historic Places had purchased and are now displaying the plaques.

New Business
Bill Wood informed the group of the 5th Annual Workshop sponsored by the Ozarks Genealogical Society to be held in Springfield on October 4. Secretary has registered to be a vendor.

Secretary was empowered to purchase a duplicating stamp with correct address.

Program
Program chairman, Robert Gilmore, introduced Ellen Massey, author and teacher of Lebanon, who spoke on "Mary Elizabeth Mahnlcey, Taney County Pioneer Writer." Mrs. Massey is compiling a book about the life and writings of Mrs. Mahnkey.

Announcements
December 8 is the next meeting date. Books for sale on display.

Secretary will be in the Society office for purchase of quarterlies.
