Mrs. Bruce JONES, 210 E. 24th St., Galena, KS ,6739 is seeking information about great grandfather, 1ev. Leroy Lee THOMAS, born in TN on Jan. 31, 1830, exact place unknown). He died May 11, 1916 near ~owersite, MO and is buried in Edwards Cemetery. le was a Methodist minister and served several years is Sheriff of Taney County. Married three times, his irst two wives preceded him in death. On Aug. 19, 847 he married Sally OWENS in Greene County, MO.
Her death date unknown. His second marriage was o her sister, Polly OWENS WARREN, widow of James WARREN. She is also, buried in Edwards Cemetery. The was born April 15, 1827 and died October 1, 1903. )n December 28, 1904 he married Sarah A. BUCK of (irbyville with John SPEER officiating. Family tradition says that he served in the Civil War. Mrs. Robert L. HAGER, Route 1, Box 88, Jsawatomie, KS 66064 is seeking information on the [ollowing: George William COMPTON, born 1831 in VA and died 1894 in Viola, MO. He fathered 18 r,hildren: George W., David H., Samuel W., Henry H., emily J., Mary, Eliza P., Martha E., John T., Carroll, evelyn, Georgia A., Charley, Edward J., Claude B., Gus X, Maude C., and Rufus J. His first wife, Mary SNODGRASS, was born in 1834 in TN and died 1873 in Taney County, MO. Tennessee SNODGRASS was his second wife and was born in 1850 in TN, died 1926 in Springfield, MO. She was the daughter of Thomas and Caroline, father of George William, was born 1803 [n VA and died in 1861 in MO. He fathered 6 children: William, Dr. John Patrick, Fountain D., Elizabeth, Mary and George William. His wife, Ann PRINDLE, mother of Geo. Wm., born 1803, died in 1871 in Taney County, MO.

Regarding Marcella JOHNSTON query in Volume 8- Number 12, Thomas Marion JOHNSTON was born July 23, 1860 in Missouri. He married Belle Dora MAHURIN of Benton County, AR on September 27, 1883 and died April 9, 1933 in Oklahoma.
Mrs. JOHNSTON is also needing information on Martha ‘Patsy" Frazier (Fraser), wife of Thomas JOHNSTON, born in Tennessee about 1823. Have heard that she moved to the Rio Grande area of Texas with her son’s family (R. T. Richard or George). Previously lived in Benton Co. AR. and McDonald and Barry County, MO. Barbara (VINSON) DeVORE, Route 2 Box 761, Ava, MO 65608 is interested in researching the VINSON, SINGLETON, COY, HOLT, GARBER and MORELAND families. The VINSON and SINGLETON families have lived in Douglas County since 1857.

Mae Carney PARKER, Route 3, Box 178, Union, MO 63084 is wanting proof of the death of Samuel JACKSON, who was born in June, 1826 in Tennessee and died on July 13, 1911 at Day, Taney County, MO. (Jefferson City, MO does not have record.) He married Melvina (Viney, Elvina or maybe LeVina) ABNEY, who was born about 1833 in Kentucky and died April 8, 1921. Need their marriage date and names of their 6 or 7 children. Both are believed to be buried in Cupp Cemetery (6 miles north of Branson on Highway 65). Samuel’s father was William and mother was Nancy CUPP. Believe William might have been married before he married Nancy. William, Samuel, and James P. (son) all served in Civil War. Any help from land deeds, wills, etc. will be appreciated.
Susan KNIGHT, 21416A 108th Ave., Ct. E, Graham, WA 98338 would like information on Samuel JACKSON and his mother, Nancy MARTIN. Both resided in Taney County, MO, Jasper Township near Day from 1876 until their death. The 1880 census shows Nancy living with her daughter, Matilda KEITHLEY. Would like to know when and where they died and about their last years in Taney County.
Congratulations are in order for two of our charter members! Douglas Mahnkey of Forsyth and Roy Matthews of Taneyville have been recognized by the White River Valley Electric Cooperative as employees who have given their knowledge, time, and hard work in bringing electricity to rural Ozark residents. Mr. Mahnkey began his service in 1946 and Mr. Matthews was elected as a board director for the cooperative in 1941. Thank you, gentlemen.
