Word from Lucille A. Brown, Pleasant Valley Manor Care Center, 6814 Sobbie Road, Liberty, MO 64068 tells us that she is adjusting to her new home and wheelchair. She will be disposing of her home on Lake Pomme de Terre at Hermitage. Says that she misses coming to meetings and her "historical" friends. (No more than we miss her!} Let’s cheer her with cards & letters.
Mrs. Robert L. HAGER, Route 1, Box 88, Osawatomie, KS 66064 is seeking information on another branch of her family-Francis Marion BEARDEN, born in 1844 in Charitan County, MO and xlied in 1871, Taney County, MO was in Civil War in 1864. Fathered 10 children: Lewis F., John E., Mary L., Ollie, Oliver, Dora, Troy H., Raymond, Charlie C., & Minnie M. First wife, Ann E. CUPP, died in 1887 in Arkansas. Second wife, Laura M. HULSE, was born in Coffeyville, KS and died in 1967 in Springfield MO. Hannah BEARDEN, mother of Francis, was born in 1808 in Kentucky & became a widow before 1850. William BEARDEN, possible father of Francis, died before 1850. She will treasure any old letters, pictures or memento of any kind and will answer every letter received.
Mrs. Kirby Jean MARTIEN, 742 W. Seminole, Springfield, MO 65807 is asking for information on the family of Monroe SNODGRASS, first Wife, Mary Margaret TATUM, daughter of John B & Ann Eliza TATUM. The SNODGRASS family were residents of Taney County, MO in 1870-1880. Sons: Thomas, John T_ Lewis and maybe Rufus. Lewis married Emma C. ____ about 1897 and lived in Lincoln township of Christian County, MO in 1900. Monroe married second wife, Sarah B ____ by September 1885. What happened to Mary TATUM SNODGRASS? When did she die and where is she and rest of family buried? Who did the children marry?
Barbara Deakins, Route 1, Box 292A, Wendell, ID 83355 is looking for information on her great, great grandfather, Jasper SCOTT of the Buffalo area (MO) & believed to be buried in Re~7nolds Cemetery. His father’s name was Anthony, and he fought in the Civil War on the Union side. He had two wives-no information on first; second wife’s name was Caroline. Also, a great, great grandmother whose maiden name was Sarah Ann STALLIONS or STALLINS. Her husband was Charles Edward Philabert. Please help.
Mrs. Bruce JONES, 210 East 24th St., Galena, KS 66739 writes "help me find Mary’s parents." Mary THOMAS: Not sure of middle name. One source says it was "Arizona." Believes to have found her with her mother and brother in the 1880 Census of Boone County, AR, town of Bellefonte. Couldn’t tell if her initial was an S or A. Age 7 years. Believe great grandmother had a very hard life. Told that when she was small some men came and called her father out of the house. Then they heard a shot. When they went out he was leaning against a tree. He said that he didn’t want to die with his boots on, so they laid him down and removed his boots which were full of blood.
Mary was found again in the 1900 census of Miller Co., MO. This time her initial was definitely an S. She had married E.M. HUMPHREY in Boone Co., AR on Aug. 25, 1891 who had 2 children, Alice "Doll" and Joseph. Mary had a daughter, Maud Eva, listed as his step-daughter.
Osage township census taken 13 June 1900: 126-127 HUMPHREY, Emmery M. born 1865 -35 years-married 8-born MO. -father born MO -mother born MO.
Mary S. wife - born March 1875 -25 years-married 8-born AR. father born unknown -mother born unknown.
Alice V. -daughter, born 16 Oct. 1883 in AR - father MO -mother AR, Joseph H.-son, born 13 Dec. 1886 in AR -father MO -mother AR. James -son, born 8 May 1892 in AR -father MO -mother AR.
Vernettie daughter, born 4 Jan. 1896 in AR-father MO -mother AR.
Minnie, daughter, born 1 Feb. 1899 in MO -father MO - mother AR.
THOMAS, Earl, nephew, born 6 May 1894 in AR.-father unknown -mother unknown.
THOMAS, Maud E., step daughter, born 12 Oct. 1887 in AR -father unknown -mother AR.
If these dates are correct that would mean Mary ThOMAS was 12 years old when Maud Eva was born.
At one time the family were in Taney Co., MO.

Cleda WILLIAMS, 610 N. Shady Lane, Southiake, TX 76092 needs help on researching Christian HENKLE/HENKEL born Sept. 15, 1836 in Baden, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 12. Who did he come with or to see? He married Sarah Ann WOLF, daughter of John David and Elizabeth (BARTLETT~ WOLF in July 1861 in Clayton Co., Iowa. His name on marriage license was spelled HENKHUS. On census of KS in 1870 it was spelled HENKLE. A letter from him in Washington Territory, where he had gone alone to claim land and died of pneumonia, was HENKEL. He had 10 children, one born in 1882 in Jasper County, MO. He has not been found on any passenger list, on census of IA, MO, nor Indian Territory. Any leads appreciated.
Also Mrs. WILLIAMS needs information on descendants of Mary I. CLANTON HOPPER MATHIS. She married No. 1 Andrew Jackson HOPPER, who had three children by a previous marriage - Melvina, Izora & James.
Mary & Andrew had one son, Marvol Clinton, born 1860 in Newton Co., MO. ON 1870 census Mary J. is married to Malcom MATHIS, who, also, had children by a previous marriage: Johnson married Melvina HOPPER; Sarah; Margaret married Bud KELLER; Mary married Marvol HOPPER. Malcom and Mary J. had six children: Andrew (Bunk); Jackson married Sarah BAKER; William Dave; Lucy Jane married David C. HENKEL; Nancy married___ BARNES, then ___ THORNHILL; Mattie married ___ MOSS. Will answer all correspondence and will exchange information
