MINUTES OF MEETING—SEPTEMBER 14, 1986

Meeting: Date, Time Place
The regular quarterly meeting of the White River Valley Society was held in the banquet room of the Friendship House, The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO on September 14, 1988.

Invocation
President Robert Gilmore convened the meeting at 1:10p.m. and gave the invocation. Introductions were made.

Attendance
Twenty members and one guest signed the attendance register.

Minutes
Minutes of the Annual Meeting of June 8 were approved as corrected.

Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer’s report showed a bank balance of $2302.01 with one outstanding bill to be paid.

President’s Remarks
President Gilmore asked that members be more diligent in attendance; to contact people to write and to share history; one announced that Charlotte Dugan has been named editor of the quarterly. He also asked that cards be sent to Jewell Ross Mehus and Lucille A. Brown.

Committee Reports
Committees reporting were: Library, Penelope Willard and Historic Sites, James Horst.

Genealogical Workshop
A motion to be an exhibitor at the Annual Ozarks Genealogical Society’s Workshop

was made by Kathleen VanBuskirk. Motion carried. Registration fee $18.00.

Historical Essay Contest
By general consent the Society voted to continue the Historical Essay Contest.

Program
Jerry Gideon, vice president and program chairman and chairman of the Steamboat Landing Committee spoke on the accomplishments and future plans of the committee. Mrs. Willard, Elino Ingenthron, Viola Hartman and Don Sullenger were introduced and told of their work on the committee.

Committee Recognition
Mr. Gideon moved that the White River Valley Historical Society recognize the Steamboat

Landing Committee as a special committee of the society with the authority to receive and expend funds related to the functions of the committee. Motion carried.

Announcements
Next Meeting - December 14, 1986 - The School of the Ozarks Friendship House Banquet Room - 1:00 p.m. Program by Dr. Thomas P. Sweeney of Springfield, MO. Slide presentation on "Indian Territories During the Civil War."
