Meeting Dater Place Time
The first regular quarterly meeting of the 1987-88 year was held on September 13 at the Friendship House on the School of the Ozarks campus, Point Lookout, Mo. with President Robert Gilmore convening the meeting at 1:00 p.m.
Invocation
The invocation was given by James Horst.
Attendance
Following a welcome, thirty-one members and guests introduced themselves.
Minutes
Minutes published in Vol.9-No.8 of the Quarterly were approved.
Treasurers Report
Treasurers report showed a bank balance of $1905.38.
Correspondence
Correspondence from various vendors and an invitation to attend the State Historical Society of Missouri meeting and workshop was read.
Committee Report
Mr. Horst, Historic Sites Chairman, suggested that interest should be created in community people in historic events, sites, etc.
Motion to purcase General Material
Mr. Horst moved that $73.00 be allowed for purchasing material for genealogical research. Motion carried. He also announced that the Christian County Library has genealogical helps.
Motion to pay O.G.S Workshop
Cuma Horst moved that $16.00 registration be paid to the Ozarks Genealogical Society for the workshop on Oct. 17 at Drury College for exhibit table. Motion carried.
Committee Report
Jerry Gideon, Taney County Historical Committee Chairman, announced that the $500.00 allowed the committee was used to send 11,000 brochures on the Sesquicentennial Celebration to Taney County residents. He asked for "Time Capsule" articles.
Program
The program was given by Bob Dunn, archaeologist for the Little Rock (AR) District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He spoke on the "Historic Resources of the White River." He reviewed archaeology from 12,000 B.C. to the modem period of 1912 and up to the present.
Announcement
President Gilmore stressed the need for more members to meet the rising cost of the Quarterly and area promotion.
