Volume 7, Number 9 - Fall 1981
Taney County Republican, June 16, 1904:
"Prof. A. J. Hicks of Lead Hill, Ark., held a gramaphone entertainment at the school house Thursday night. Out of some misunderstanding there was not a large audience that did not hinder the entertainment from being fine. The Professor was very liberal giving a good percent of the proceeds to the district."
(A. J. Hicks was a highly popular early Taney County educator as a country school teacher, conductor of normal school sessions, county school commissioner and Taney Countys first county superintendent of schools under the Missouri school law in 1909. Elmo Ingenthron makes several references to Mr. Hicks in his THE LAND OF TANEY.)
