W.R.V.H.S. MEETING MARCH 8, 1987

Meeting Date, Time, Place
The regular quarterly meeting of the White River Valley Historical Society was held on March 8,1987 in the Banquet Room of the Friendship House, The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO. President Robert

Invocation
Gilmore convened the meeting at 1:00 p.m. and gave the invocation.

Distribution
Papers listing articles needed for Visitor’s Center display were distributed.

Attendance
Thirty-four members and guests made introductions.

Minutes Annual
Douglas Mahnkey moved that minutes of the December 14, 1986 meeting be approved as printed. Seconded and carried.

Treasurers Report
Treasurer’s report showed a bank balance of $2169.99.

Quarterly Material
President Gilmore announced that editor had enough material for Volume 9-Number 7 with deadline April 15.

July 3, 4 & 5
Jerry Gideon, Chairman of Steamboat Landing Committee, invited assembly to attend the 150th Anniversary

Celebration
Celebration to be held in1 Forsyth July 3, 4 and 5.

Correction
Lyle Owen made corrections in Townsend Godsey’s story "Branson Presbyterian Church’ on pages 12 & 13 in Volume 9-No. 6 of the Quarterly.

Christian Co. Museum
Announcement was made of the dedication of the Christian County Museum now located in the Old Presbyterian Co. Museum Church at Ozark on 5 April at 2:30 p.m.

Display
Articles needed for display at the Dewey Short Visitor’s Center were discussed.

Nominating Committee Report
The Nominating Committee, composed of Penelope Willard, chairman; Kathleen VanBuskirk, and Artie Ayres, presented a first reading of nominees for 1987-88 Officers and Directors.

Program
Emory Melton, State Senator, 29th District of MO, and past president of WRVHS, presented the program, "Historical Events of the Ozark Region."

Announcements
President Gilmore announced the two Sunday performances of the Tn-Lakes Community Theatre in Branson. Twenty-sixth Annual Meeting was announced for June 14.

Adjournment
Meeting adjourned 2:10 p.m.

Amended attendance to include late-comers: 31 members and 15 guests. Total 46.

The 26th Annual meeting of the White River Valley Historical Society was held in the Banquet Room of the Friendship House at The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO on June 14. 1987.

Attendance
Final attendance count was 29 members and 12 guests. The Pledge of Allegiance was repeated in unison.

Treasurer’s Report
Quarterly report of treasurer showed a bank balance of $2080.50. Annual report followed.

Historian
Ruth Asher, historian, gave a written annual report.

Forsyth Celebration Motion $500.00 to committee
Jerry Gideon, vice president, program chairman and chairman of Steamboat Landing Committee, announced that the name of the committee had been changed to the Taney County Historical Committee. He gave highlights of the Sesquincentennial Celebration program to beheld at Forsyth on July 3, 4 & 5 and moved that the Society give the Committee $500.00 for expenses. Motion seconded & carried. An itemized account of the expenses be submitted in writing.

Election
Following a second reading of the Committee on Nominations by Fred Hartman the following officers were elected: President-Robert Gilmore of Ozark; Vice President. Jerry Gideon of Forsyth; Historian, Pauline Barton of Branson; Taney County Director 1987-1990, Fred Hartman of Kirbyville; and Ozark County Director 1987-1990, Ruby Robins of Gainesville.

Program
Dr. Duane G. Meyer, Professor of History and President Emeritus of S.M.S.U., spoke on "When Taney Was Born—America in the 1830’s."

Announcements
Next meeting scheduled for September 13-same place.
