Enjoy Hands-On Learning at the Library!

Summer often conjures up images of reading and relaxation - but it's a great time for learning too! With less-rigorous school assignments, kids can really dive into topics that interest them. The Library offers lots of great books for kids to learn about a variety of interests but our programs offer amazing hands-on opportunities too! Try some of these neat programs for elementary-aged kids coming up in June:

  • Kindergarteners, first and second graders can explore STEAM-related activities at STEAM Explorers at the Library Center on Tuesdays in June and July at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Call 417-616-0526 to register.
  • Emerging young readers in grades K-3 can practice their skills while reading to a dog friend from Pet Therapy of the Ozarks at Summer Reading Pals on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library. Call 417-616-0703 to register.
  • Kids in grades 3-5 can learn the ukulele at the Beginner Ukulele Workshop at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m. Karen Maxson, owner of the Ukulele Academy of the Ozarks, will introduce children to "Oceans of Possibilities" when they learn to play the ukulele. No experience is necessary and ukuleles will be provided. Call 417-616-0703 to register.
  • Kindergarteners through 5th graders can explore the depths of ocean life and learn about the ecosystems that exist there with Life in the Sea Workshops with Mad Science! Two opportunities:
    • Willard Branch Library: Monday, June 13 at 10 a.m., call 417-742-4258 to register.
    • Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library: Tuesday, June 14, 2 p.m., call 417-616-0703 to register.
  • Interested in puppets? Kids in grades K-5 can create their own puppet stages and sets of puppets while learning about water pollution at Puppets Trash Talking Workshop with StoneLion Puppets on Tuesday, June 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Library Center. Registration starts June 7, call 417-616-0526.

Please note that space is limited at all of these programs so registration is required.

Hope to see you at the Library!
