Changes coming to MOBIUS soon!

Starting April 18, 2024, MOBIUS services will be temporarily unavailable because MOBIUS is moving to a new resource-sharing software. This upgrade is exciting for the library community, as it will pave the way for expanded access to resources with a larger network of libraries in the future.

Here is what you need to know:

How long will MOBIUS services be unavailable?

MOBIUS services will be unavailable starting April 18, 2024. MOBIUS services are expected to be restored in late May 2024.

Can I still return MOBIUS materials during the downtime?

Yes! However, they all have hard return deadlines, regardless of their checkout date.

April 28: Audio-visual items (such as movies, CDs, etc.) are due.

May 17: Print MOBIUS materials, as well as audiobooks, are due.

Will the downtime affect my current holds or requests?

All holds that have not been filled by April 18 will automatically be transferred to the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system by our staff. It may take a little longer to receive the requested items.

Will the outage impact the library’s catalog?

Not at all. You can still browse the library’s catalog, and explore our collection.

What if the material I want isn’t in Springfield-Greene County Library's catalog?

If the material you need is not available in our collection, simply submit an Interlibrary Loan request. After you fill out the ILL request form, our team will search for the material in libraries nationwide and borrow it on your behalf.

What is the expected delivery time for materials requested through Interlibrary Loan?

Delivery times for Interlibrary Loan requests may vary depending on item availability, the procedures of lending libraries, and the fact that some ILL materials are delivered through the U.S. Postal Service. We’ll strive to expedite the process and get your materials to you as quickly as possible, but delivery times will likely be impacted.

How will I be notified when MOBIUS is back online?

MOBIUS services are expected to be restored in late May 2024. Until then, we’ll keep you updated on the progress of the software migration through announcements on our website, and social media. You can also contact library staff for updates.

What are the benefits of the MOBIUS upgrade for patrons?

The software migration will allow for expanded collaboration and access to resources, offering patrons a wider range of materials and services because we hope to be partnering with many more libraries nationwide.

Who can I contact for assistance or more information?

If you have any questions or need assistance during the pause in MOBIUS services, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Interlibrary Loan staff at 417-616-0529. You can also send any questions to  Ask a Librarian or ask staff at your local branch library.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this exciting time of change. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected library community.
