Books and Tools for Children with Sensory Sensitivities

By Cathy at the Library Station

Little Senses is a series of picture books featuring children with sensory sensitivities. Written by Samantha Cotterill, they portray everyday situations and show positive solutions for coping with new experiences for sensitive children on and off the autism spectrum. The books allow kids to recognize themselves in a playful yet therapeutic way. They are also a great tool for teachers to raise awareness and understanding with others.

Planning on visiting the library? Each branch has special tools available to help children who may feel anxious or overwhelmed when visiting the library. Ask a librarian about items like noise-canceling headphones, wiggle cushions, weighted lap pads and other things children can use while they are at the library. These items are supported by the Springfield Greene County Diversity and Inclusion Grant Program of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
