Family Symbols

Playing with symbols is an important part of reading because letters are symbols for sounds. If you read fairy tales or stories about medieval castles, you might notice a coat of arms in the illustrations. Work together to make one for your family. Help with ideas by asking questions. What object symbolizes the family? What animal? Color? Together, you can come up with something that truly symbolizes your family.

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

All the king's horses and all the king's men,

Couldn't put Humpty together again!
