Rhyming Guessing Game

Playing with rhyming words isn’t just lots of fun for kids, it helps them hear how language goes together. Try this fun guessing game: think of a word and ask your child to figure out what it is by saying nonsense words that rhyme with it. For example, if the word is "banana" you might say "fanana, janana, wanana," until they figure it out. Take turns so your child is getting experience hearing rhymes and making them up. You’ll both be laughing and learning at the same time!

SING

Miss Mary Mack

Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack,
All dressed in black, black, black,
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons,
All down her back, back, back.

She asked her mother, mother, mother,
For fifteen cents, cents, cents,
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants,
Jump over the fence, fence, fence.

They jumped so high, high, high,
They reached the sky, sky, sky,
And they didn’t come back, back, back,
‘Til the fourth of July, -ly, -ly!
