Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Hits Records Sales of $108,379.38

The Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Library District surpassed all of its previous sales totals during its Fall Book Sale Oct. 18-23, hitting $108,379.38 in sales of books and audiovisual materials.

The Friends’ previous sales record was $107,082.57, from the 2009 spring sale. The fall sale total marks the largest total from one sale event since the volunteer group’s first one in 1985 on the parking lot of the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library (formerly Main Library), which totaled $2,515.91.

The spring and fall 2010 book sales totaled $212,646.79.

Proceeds from the Friends annual fall and spring book sales go directly back into the library district as grants for books for children, the summer reading program, equipment and furniture and free live performances for all ages.

Most recently, the Friends gave the district $267,000 for a new bookmobile, which is expected to arrive this winter. The grant included money to revitalize the Ash Grove Branch Library. The project was completed this month and the rural Greene County branch celebrated its grand reopening Oct. 23.
