Library Book Discussions Support MSU’s Common Reader Program

The Springfield-Greene County Library District will host book discussions this fall in support of Missouri State University’s Common Reader program. This year’s Common Reader selection is “Outcasts United” by Warren St. John, which tells the story of a refugee soccer team, a remarkable woman coach and a small southern town turned upside down by the process of refugee settlement.

The public is invited to attend discussions at the following times and Library locations:

  • 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in meeting room A at the Library Center
  • 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Coffee Ethic located next to the Park Central Branch Library
  • 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Brentwood Branch Library

The purpose of the Common Reader program is to provide a common academic experience for first-year students and create a greater sense of community among students, faculty, staff and the public. For more information about Common Reader visit
