Local Resources Available to Answer Insurance Enrollment Questions; Volunteers Needed for Library's Holiday Store

Health insurance enrollment deadlines have generated questions about where to turn for advice or help signing up.

Do you or someone you know need to enroll in a plan through the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace created by the Affordable Health Care Act? Open enrollment for those plans continues now through Feb. 15, 2015. That’s also the deadline for those needing to change their current marketplace plan.

The Library has partnered with the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging to provide free, on-site sign-up assistance. Dori Meyer, a federally certified health care counselor, will be available for appointments at the Library Center. To make an appointment or for more information, call 417-459-6112 or 417-616-0542.

The library branches also maintain lists of other sites offering Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicare enrollment. Call your neighborhood branch for information.

Here’s a special call for volunteers who want to spread some holiday cheer.

The library’s annual Holiday Store will open again beginning Dec. 6 for young shoppers to buy gifts for their family members and friends. The store is set up in a library meeting room and stocked with gift items at kid-friendly prices of 25 cents to $5.

Stores will be in the Library Center during most library hours from Dec. 6-14; and at the Library Station and Brentwood Branch Library from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 6 only.

Volunteers are assigned to each little shopper to help him or her stay within a budget, select gifts for people on the gift list and help wrap and tag the items after checkout.

It takes many volunteers to make the store successful and thrilling for the children, so the library will conduct an information session at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Library Center Story Hour Room. We’ll accept volunteer applications from individuals age 14 and older who are interested in working one or more shifts Dec. 6-14. You can also print and complete an application before Saturday at thelibrary.org/donate/volunteer.cfm. For more information call Human Resources at (417) 616-0589.
