Library Offers a Variety of Products and Services for Businesses
You may wonder what a public library would be doing at the Nov. 3 Business Expo and Career Fair from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Springfield Expo Center, 635 E. St. Louis St. Actually, we’re all business when it comes to helping entrepreneurs, finding financing or providing deep data for that competitive edge.
The Springfield-Greene County Library District is also an employer with 247 full- and part-time staff members, and – surprise – most of us are not “librarians.” That is, most staffers don’t have college degrees in library science. You don’t have to be a librarian to work for a library.
That’s why the library will participate in the expo’s Career Fair from 1-4 p.m. today. There could be a job for you or someone you know in business/accounting, human resources, computer training, maintenance, shelving/clerk, information technology, Web development, book/materials purchasing, delivery, bookmobile/outreach services and interlibrary loan. Library jobs are always posted at thelibrary.org/libjob.
The Business Expo, on the other hand, provides a display of products and services that business people and idea seekers can use to compete or branch out. The library will be there to talk about the business information and online tools you can access anytime.
Among the most popular resources:
- Business Decision – This database, reporting and mapping service combines extensive consumer household, market segmentation and demographic data with GIS mapping technology. Use it to get market research for an existing business or research potential locations.
- Business Insights: Essentials – Provides company, industry and investment reports, and business periodical articles, market share data and company histories. Use it to research your industry and find market research and trade journal articles.
- ReferenceUSA U.S. Consumers/Lifestyles – This directory of more than 203 million consumers contains lifestyle interest and demographics. Find names and addresses for a mailing list, and where potential customers are concentrated.
Visit thelibrary.org/research, click on the dropdown “Business” or “Funding & Nonprofits” for more, or call 417-883-5341 to set an appointment for a personal consultation with a librarian to discuss your area of interest.
