Learn to Trace Your Family History at Genealogy Symposium March 25
Learn tips for digging into your family history from the Library's Local History and Genealogy Department at a Genealogy Symposium for adults from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, in the Library Center auditorium.

- 9-10 a.m. Researching Your German Ancestors. Local History Associate John Rutherford will help you identify your German family members and provide tips to help you determine their origins.
- 10:15-11:30 a.m. Tracing Your World War I Ancestor. Local History Associate Michael Price will present techniques for researching your ancestors who fought in World War I. Although millions of World War I service records were destroyed in a fire, learn how to use surviving documents to discover your ancestor’s wartime experiences.
- 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tracking Ancestors Using Google Earth. Google Earth is a fabulous tool enabling genealogists to set their ancestors in their geographical locations. Local History Associate Patti Hobbs, a Certified Genealogist, will demonstrate Google Earth tools by locating and marking ancestral properties and showing how to import and overlay old maps.
- 2-3 p.m. Finding Female Ancestors. The stories of women’s lives are often lost--hidden behind a man’s name. Through multiple case studies, Local History Associate Konrad Stump will explain how to look at female-centric sources, social histories, objects and relationships to find and piece together stories about these lost women.
- 3:30-4:30 p.m. Researching Native American Ancestors. Curious about the story of Native Americans in your family tree? Learn how to begin the research needed to identify your Native American ancestors and what records they might be found in from Local History Associate Renee Glass.
