Hear a Twist on the Local Legend: The Albino Farm

Ozarkers today still ponder the legend of a farm north of Springfield supposedly inhabited by a withdrawn family of albinos. Springfield native and author Steve Yates has crafted the legend into what he calls “a horror story turned inside out.”

In April, Yates will present two talks about his newest novel, “The Legend of the Albino Farm, published by Unbridled Books. He will also sell and sign his books after the presentations.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the Library Station Santa Fe Room, Yates will read from and talk about the research involved in creating his novel about a thriving, Irish Catholic family in the Ozarks that is tagged with an inexplicable spook tale, and the real terror loosed on the family by the legend.

At 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the Library Center meeting room B, he will discuss the novel and talk about small-press publishing and conduct a Q&A session about how the publishing industry works. Yates has worked in publishing for 21 years. Prospective writers and students who wish to learn about careers in publishing are welcome.

Yates has won numerous book awards and is the associate director and the marketing director at the University Press of Mississippi.
