The Royal Treatment

Are you looking for some royal reads? If so, the library had you covered with books about royal history, historical fiction, and royal romances. Many of these books are radically different but they all have one thing in common: a connection to a crown.

A Prince on Paper by Alyssa Cole
Nya Jerami fled Thesolo for the glitz and glamour of NYC but discovered that her Prince Charming only exists in her virtual dating games. When Nya returns home for a royal wedding, she accidentally finds herself up close and personal--in bed--with the real-life celebrity prince who she loves to hate. For Johan von Braustein, the red-headed step-prince of Liechtienbourg, acting as paparazzi bait is a ruse that protects his brother--the heir to the throne--and his own heart. When a royal referendum threatens his brother's future, a fake engagement is the perfect way to keep the cameras on him. Nya and Johan both have good reasons to avoid love, but as desires are laid bare behind palace doors, they must decide if their fake romance will lead to a happily-ever-after.

Before the Crown by Flora Harding
One of the most iconic Royal weddings of all time. A marriage spanning more than seven decades. A match that was deemed unsuitable. A man she wouldn't give up. Step through the palace gates and discover the greatest love story of the 20th century. A prince without a country, a boy without a home, a man in search of a destiny. He is the risk she has never been allowed to take. The risk not even the shadow of the crown will stop her from taking... Before the Crown is an enthralling historical novel that explores the secret engagement between Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in the tumultuous wake of WWII.

Behind the Throne : A Domestic History of the British Royal Household by Adrian Tinniswood
Monarchs: they're just like us. They entertain their friends and eat and worry about money. Henry VIII tripped over his dogs. George II threw his son out of the house. James I had to cut back on the alcohol bills. In Behind the Throne, historian Adrian Tinniswood uncovers the reality of five centuries of life at the English court, taking the reader on a remarkable journey from one Queen Elizabeth to another and exploring life as it was lived by clerks and courtiers and clowns and crowned heads. A masterful and witty social history of five centuries of royal life, Behind the Throne offers a grand tour of England's grandest households

Finding Freedom : Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family by Omid Scobie
With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, the insider authors offer an honest, up-close and disarming portrait of a confident, influential and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.

Princesses Behaving Badly : Real Stories From History-- Without the Fairy-Tale Endings by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie
You think you know her story. You've read the Brothers Grimm, you've watched the Disney cartoons, you cheered as these virtuous women lived happily ever after. But the lives of real princesses couldn't be more different. Sure, many were graceful and benevolent leaders--but just as many were ruthless in their quest for power, and all of them had skeletons rattling in their royal closets. Princess Stephanie von Hohenlohe was a Nazi spy. Empress Elizabeth of the Austro-Hungarian empire slept wearing a mask of raw veal. Princess Olga of Kiev murdered thousands of men, and Princess Rani Lakshmibai waged war on the battlefield, charging into combat with her toddler son strapped to her back. Princesses Behaving Badly offers minibiographies of all these princesses and dozens more.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
A big-hearted romantic comedy in which the First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales after an incident of international proportions forces them to pretend to be best friends.

The Girl in White Gloves : A Novel of Grace Kelly by Kerri Maher
Hungry for her art and hopeful for the future, young Grace Kelly has the world at her feet. MGM's rising queen is poised to win the Oscar, but she chafes at the studio's increasing restrictions on her life. When an unexpected friendship develops between her and Prince Rainier of Monaco, she faces the tempting possibility of a new role - one that offers the power and stability she craves. A Hollywood darling, a fairy-tale princess, and a wife starved for autonomy, Grace Kelly is a woman divided. And though she is confined by public perception and societal conventions, one thing is certain - she will never bow to them.

The Heir and the Spare by Emil Albright
Going all the way to England for college--to Oxford, no less--would be exciting enough. But no sooner does Evie set foot on English soil than she falls for a boy who turns out to be a real prince--second in line to the throne of England. Edmund is wonderful, even though loving him can be a royal pain, from the demands of his family to the stuck-up aristocrat who thinks she should be the one to win Edmund's heart. All that is swept aside, however, when the riddle of Evie's past surfaces, and the new couple becomes obsessed with figuring out who the real Evie is, with the growing suspicion that the truth will be a shocker.

The Other Windsor Girl : A Novel of Princess Margaret, Royal Rebel by Georgie Blalock
Springing into post-World War II society, and quite naughty and haughty, Princess Margaret lived in a whirlwind of fame and notoriety. She sparkles in the company of her glittering entourage of wealthy young aristocrats known as the Margaret Set, but can she be a dutiful princess while still dazzling the world on her own terms? The Honorable Vera Strathmore dreams of living and working in New York until a chance meeting with the Princess changes her life. In the privileged position of second lady-in-waiting to the Princess, Vera watches the princess's love affair with dashing Captain Peter Townsend unfurl.

Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean
After learning that her father is the Crown Prince of Japan, Izumi travels to Tokyo, where she discovers that Japanese imperial life--complete with designer clothes, court intrigue, paparazzi scandals, and a forbidden romance with her handsome but stoic bodyguard--is a tough fit for the outspoken and irreverent eighteen-year-old from northern California.
