Sign Up Starting June 1 for the Library's Summer Reading Program!

Reading for pleasure holds great rewards, and you’ll earn even more when you sign up for the 2023 Summer Reading Program, “All Together Now,” through the Springfield-Greene County Libraries!

Tiny tots and preschoolers can be read to, while kids, teens and adults can dive into their favorite topics all summer while earning free books and incentives geared to each age group. Summer reading also helps kids and teens sharpen their reading skills.

The program runs June 1-Aug. 5. There’s a program for all age groups -- Tiny Tots & Preschool: Birth–Age 5; Kids: Ages 6–11; Teens: Grades 6–12.  Adults have a Summer Reading Program, too, with a sign-up gift and chances for cool prizes in August.

The program is funded by the Friends of the Library.

Watch this new video by the Library's Youth Services staff about the program!

Beginning June 1, participants can pick up a game board at any Springfield-Greene County Library branch or the Mobile Library, or log on to thelibrary.org/summerreading and follow the links to register for the reading program that fits you. Start logging reading minutes and complete the activities to earn great prizes.

Kids benefit from being read to even before they can read on their own. It builds pre-reading and comprehension skills. Listening to others read to them counts toward their reading time.

There are prizes! Tiny tots/preschoolers who are read to, and kids and teens can earn a Fresh Start Fine Waiver Card upon completing their first activity. Then, complete the program to earn a free book and a Youth Summer Passport. Get free treats and admissions at Diventures, Chick-Fil-A, Andy B's, Little Caesar's, The Urban Cup and Pineapple Whip.

Participants can pick up their prizes at any library branch or the Mobile Library between June 12 and August 5. (Fresh Start Fine Waiver Card may be picked up starting June 1.)

Kids who keep reading can earn Star Reader entries in the end-of-summer drawings. Prizes include reading totes, coupons for free books and gift cards.

There are lots of programs to attend, too. Be amazed by magicians, musicians and mad scientists for kids and families. Then explore our community’s most popular sites at five Fantastic Fridays.

Visit thelibrary.org/programs for a complete schedule of events, or see the summer issue of Bookends, the free calendar of events at any branch and Mobile Library.
