Exploring Independence
By Jennifer in the Youth Services Office
Young children are notorious for growing, learning and choosing to do things independently. While this can be a new, sometimes challenging time, it is also an opportunity to develop social relationships, consistent routines and language skills. At this stage, you are likely to see them acting out behaviors of familiar adults as they explore the world around them and learn through play experiences.
Although your little one may not be ready for independent reading, there are many opportunities to express their autonomy and learn through play at the Library! Whether they carry their books, answer a question during Storytime or put away their toys in the Play and Learn Center, you can find new opportunities each day for your child to gain independence and confidence that will lead them down the road to reading.
When you and your child are ready, they can even get their very own Springfield-Greene County Library Card. Just remember teens and children 17 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to register for a Library Card.
Wow, what a big kid!
