ProGenealogists Inc recently announced their list of most popular genealogy websites for 2010. ProGenealogists has been ranking usage for the past three years to help family historians sort through the thousands of online genealogy sites.
According to PrWeb.com, the study was designed similar to the popular "places rated" ranking using different criteria to rate the websites and then averaging the results to determine popularity.
Four ranking agencies were used, judging sites on differing criteria. The results were then averaged and arranged according to popularity.
"Genealogy space on the web remains fluid and people continue to look for data about their families,” said Natalie Cottrill, President and CEO of ProGenealogists. “The presence of six data-rich sites among the first eight is expected. The changing popularity of social networking sites is interesting, too, because it reflects current Internet trends."
Ancestry.com, number one on the list, is available as Ancestry Library Edition at your local Springfield-Greene County Library branch.
