Library Snapshot Day: Show-Me Your Library Planned September 21

September 9, 2010 — What is the one place that offers computers with Internet access, WiFi, live music programs, genealogy help, movies, tax assistance, professional computer training classes, early literacy training, family nights, books and magazines – all free?

The Springfield-Greene County Libraries, of course. More than 1.9 million people who visited the 10 branches and bookmobile last year discovered all that and more.

On Tuesday, September 21, the library staff will capture a snapshot of one day in the life of The Library as a way to demonstrate the many ways that libraries enrich lives and enhance communities.

On Library Snapshot Day: Show-Me Your Library, staff will take photos and video of activities at each branch and bookmobile, compile statistics and gather customer comments and Facebook posts.

The public is invited to join in Snapshot Day. Visit a branch, attend a program, submit a comment about the value of the library or post a comment on www.facebook.com/snapshotday.

The public is also invited to participate in a photo contest for prizes as part of Library Snapshot Day. Submit via e-mail (kathleeno@thelibrary.org) or www.facebook.com/snapshotday a photo that best illustrates any of these five categories: Show-Me Your Library, adults using computers, teens, children and “caught reading.”
