Get Big Bargains at Bag Day; Interview a Loved One on the Day of Listening

October 26, 2012 — Sunday, Oct. 28, is Bag Day, the final day of the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale.

If you haven’t made it to the giant sale yet or you’ve already been this week, you can make your dollars stretch even further today. From 1-5 p.m. at sale headquarters in Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road, you only pay $1 for all the books, CDs, DVDs and other items you can stuff in a sack – or $5 for a sack from the better books section. It’s amazing what you’ll find even on the final day. One shopper’s $5 sack last year included a book autographed by John Grisham.

Getting together with family around Thanksgiving? The producers of National Public Radio’s Story Corps series, heard on KSMU, invite you to join Story Corps’ National Day of Listening and record an interview with a loved one the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 23. The Library, Drury University and Public Radio Station KSMU want to help.

KSMU staff will present sessions with examples from Story Corps and interview tips. Sessions are 11 a.m.-noon Nov. 8 in Drury University’s Lay Hall with KSMU’s Michele Skalicky, or 1-2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Library Center’s Story Hour Room with KSMU’s Jennifer Davidson.

On the Day of Listening, Nov. 23, you can record your stories at home, or come to the Library Center where staff will help you record the interview. Save the date; hours, locations and reservation information will be announced later.

The recordings are for personal use and will not be aired on NPR. Listeners may upload their interviews to NPR's National Day of Listening page.
