Master Windows 10 with Help from The Edge; New StoryWalk® Starts Feb. 17

February 16, 2017 — If you could use a little help mastering Windows 10 on your computer, the Library has several options for a classroom setting or self-directed session.

The Edge Community Technology Center in the Midtown Carnegie Branch is registering adults for a Windows 10 class from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 24. There is no fee. You can register for this or any other Edge class by calling the Edge at 417-837-5011.

The class covers features such as Task View and Cortana, as well as the Start and Settings menus; and using tiles to launch apps and access other programs. Don’t worry if it’s foreign to you now; other people will be learning right along with you.

The Edge repeats this class March 10 and 22 at the Edge; and March 15 at the Library Center. More are planned later.

If you prefer to learn on your own, you can take a Lynda.com tutorial at the Edge and Edge Mobile’s scheduled tutorial times at the branches. You can also take it online from anywhere by going to thelibrary.org/Lynda. Create a free account with your library card and search for the Windows 10 session.

The Edge also offers one-on-one help during Ask The Edge sessions. The next one is March 15, or by appointment. Edge staff provides up to an hour of personal attention to answer your specific computer and technology questions. This is not a general “tutoring” session. Call the Edge for details.

Many families have already discovered the Library’s StoryWalks® along our urban and county trails. We mount the pages of a children’s storybook on signposts so you can read the book as you walk the trail.

At 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, infants to second-graders and their adults are invited to a Racing to Read Storytime in the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. Then we’ll go outside to launch a new StoryWalk®, “Have You Heard the Nesting Bird?” by Rita Gray and Kenard Pak. It will be available during February through our partners, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
