2011-2012 Directory Now Available at the Library
February 25, 2011 —
The Springfield area has more than 800 nonprofit clubs, agencies and government entities to serve its citizens -- a pretty incredible number to keep track of year to year if you need to contact them.
The Springfield-Greene County Library District makes it easy for you by publishing The Directory, an alphabetical listing with contact numbers of those more than 800 area nonprofit clubs, agencies and organizations. The library updates it and publishes it every two years.
The 2011-2012 edition of The Directory was just published, and it’s for sale at all the library branches and Between Friends gift shops at the Library Center and Library Station for $10 apiece.
The spiral-bound book, now at a whopping 100 pages, includes mailing addresses, phone, fax, toll-free, hotline and TTY numbers, e-mail and Web addresses for the 800-plus listings.
Individuals and agencies often keep a desk copy for quick referral. Others prefer to access an online version, searchable by keyword and subject, at thelibrary.org/directory. You can also view or print the PDF version of The Directory using Adobe Reader at thelibrary.org/directory/documents/directory_2011.pdf. Reference copies are also available to view at the 10 library branches.
A Directory can also be mailed for an additional $3 shipping and handling fee for each book ordered. To order, call 417-616-0567, or mail a check to – and make it payable to – Springfield-Greene County Library District, Attn: Commun ity Relations, 4653 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield, Mo., 65810.
New this year for groups creating mailing lists – the library is making available an electronic Excel spreadsheet of The Directory listings for $25. Call 417-616-0567 for more information or to place an order.

The library is happy again this year to partner with Missouri State University and others to sponsor a celebration of African-American poetry as part of the 22nd National African American Read-In Chain. It’s at 7:30 p.m. Monday (FEB. 28) at the Northview Center in Doling Park. The event is free and open to the public.
It will feature local poets, musicians and performers.
The celebration event is part of the national Read-In Chain, which coincides with Black History Month and is sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English.
