William H. Gottfried was listed as the second oldest businessman in Springfield in his obituary in 1930. A furniture maker by trade, he also served on the City Council, using his salary from that position and public subscriptions to build a bandstand on the Public Square. On Saturday, May 14th, there will be miniature ponies courtesy of Plenty Pony Ranch and the Valley Water Mill Equestrian Center, plus lots of pony activities from 1-2:30 p.m. for all ages.
