Science Rocks the Fall Armchair University Series

    Join us to explore deep science with Missouri State University experts during the Armchair University Science Series this fall at the Library Center. Sessions are at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, for adults. For more information call 882-0714.


Sept. 28: CRISPR – Bacterial Defense to Genomic Editing. Dr. Paul Schweiger from Missouri State University’s Biology Department will discuss the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technique and how it has been used to fight diseases and enhance agriculture, as well as the ethical issues of this new technique.

Oct. 26: The Golden Age of Exoplanet Discovery. Dr. Peter Plavchan from Missouri State University’s Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science will discuss recent advances in the discovery of exoplanets and what these discoveries have taught us about our universe, along with current exoplanet research projects at MSU.

Nov. 30: Water Quality Problems and Possible Solutions in Ozarks’ Streams. Dr. Bob Pavlowsky, director of the Ozarks Environmental and Water Resources Institute at Missouri State University, will discuss contemporary water quality problems in Springfield and the Ozarks region, and what communities are doing to address those problems.
