Look to the Library for Halloween Fun and Entertainment
If you’re looking for ways to light up your Halloween celebration for the grandkids, teens or kids-at-heart, the library has everything you need but the costumes.
With Hoopla and your library card, thelibrary.org/digital, set the scene with music streamed from your digital device or computer. Go scary with “Halloween Stories and Songs,” or “The Conjuring;” or gentle with “Mickey’s Monster Bash” and “Heffalumps and Woozies Halloween Songs & Sounds.”
Scary movies, anyone? Hoopla has classics like “Children of the Corn” and Stephen King’s “A Good Marriage;” to Disney’s “Mr. Boogedy.”
Here’s the library’s Halloween program lineup:
Friday:
- "Monsters Don't Scare Me!" 10 a.m., Midtown Carnegie Branch, for infants-age 6. Wear your costume and listen to stories about all kinds of monsters.
- Monster Mash Storytime, 10 a.m., Republic Branch Library, infants-age 6. Dress up, trick-or-treat and enjoy a Halloween storytime.
- Teen Friday Nights, 6-8 p.m., Library Station Frisco Room, grades 6-12. Make Tim Burton-themed Halloween crafts and costume accessories, and watch a Burton favorite, "Corpse Bride," rated PG.
- Spooktacular Food and Fandom Festival, 6:30 p.m., Library Center Story Hour Room, grades 4-8. Dress up as a character from your favorite fandom and join us for food and fun. To register call 882-0714.
Saturday:
- Monster Mash Costume Parade, 10 a.m., Library Station Children’s Department, for all ages. Come for not-so-scary stories and dance the Monster Mash, then we'll parade through the library and collect non-edible treats.
- Let the Wild Rumpus Start! 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m., Library Center auditorium. Wear your costume and have a wild time with a story and dancing. You may even see a wild thing, so bring your camera. To register call 882-0714.
- Classic Horror Films, 7-9 p.m. Park Central Branch, for adults. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."
Monday:
- Halloween Storytime & Parade, 10:15 a.m., for infants-36 months; 11:15 a.m. for ages 3-6, Library Center auditorium. Wear your costume for a slightly spooky and a lot of fun! Then join the parade as we trick-or-treat through the library.
