Pilot Project Gives Republic Students Online Access; Learn About 1950s Springfield Sept. 19; Books for Autumn

Even though not every family in the city of Republic has a library card, a pilot project between the Library and Republic School District allows the students and employees to use the Library’s online research resources 24/7.

After a limited test, K-12 students this year can use “student access cards” to hop on a number of reliable research sites – or databases – including Biography in Context, Mango Languages and Lynda.com, through the schools’ portal.

The partnership allows students and employees access to credible resources they may not have otherwise, school officials say, and they have access 24/7 – perfect for those late-night projects.

Not in Republic Schools? Any Greene County property tax payer (or purchaser of an out-of-county resident card) can get a library card to access everything the students have, and more.

Librarians offered to set the mood for autumn with a host of book recommendations. You can find the full list and descriptions in the Books & Authors blog. Here’s a sample:

Autumn.” Author Karl Ove Knausgaard begins this biography with a daily letter to his unborn daughter, showing her what to expect of the world and describing the material and natural world with the precision and mesmerizing intensity.

Autumn of the Gun.” In Ralph Compton’s third installment of the Trail of the Gunfighter, Nathan Stone is a living legend in the West as a lawman, a wanderer through the wildest towns and terrain, and an outlaw. Now he’s on a course that will test his rawhide nerves, heading toward a fateful rendezvous with the one gunfighter as fast and deadly as he: the teenage kid who kills like a man – Nathan Stone’s son.
