Grant Provides Books for Summer Reading to Go; Help Preserve History of Lincoln High School; Learn About Growing Roses June 28

The library attracts hundreds of children every week for music and comedy performers offered through the Summer Reading Program. But many children enrolled in day camps, day care and summer schools can’t come to the programs, so we take the library to them through Summer Reading to Go.

“This summer we’re seeing over 5,000 kids, teens and adults at over 100 locations,” said Allison Eckhardt, the Outreach Services manager who coordinates the To-Go program. Staff visit day cares, preschools, after-school programs, day camps at Salvation Army and The Fairbanks, Boys & Girls Clubs and first-graders at all Title I summer schools. They also visit family programs at Northwest Project sites.

A new $4,500 grant from Community Foundation of the Ozarks will help us reward those young summer readers by funding books they can keep and enjoy beyond summer.

CFO selected To-Go program as one of two winners in a recent 45-second video challenge. Public online voting narrowed the entries, and CFO announced the winners as part of its 45th Anniversary celebration June 20.
