Find Inspiration and Bargains at Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale May 1-5
Looking for inspiration to take a trip, try healthier cooking, adopt a new hobby, or find a new favorite author? We’ve got the answer! The big Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday at the E*Plex, Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, with bargains to keep you entertained through summer reading or listening on long-distance trips.
The popular sneak preview, Friends Night Preview Sale, is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the E*Plex on the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Friends members get in free that night; others can pay $5 that night, the price of a Friends membership.
The Friends have filled seven tractor-trailers with like-new books, music CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, puzzles and games that span all genres, for all ages. As always, adult, young adult and children’s books and most audiovisuals are $1 or less. Better books are $2 and up. Cash or check accepted, and parking is always free.
Regular Sale hours are:
- Wednesday, May 1, through Friday, May 3, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
- Saturday, May 4, Half-Price Day, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Sunday, May 5, Bag Day, 1-5 p.m. Pay only $1 for a bag full of goods, or $5 from Better Books side.
Unique to the sale this year: Hundreds of mint-condition cookbooks; art books; the Great Courses series, Easton press leather-bound classics; Warhammer science fiction publications; Virginia Woolf and May Sarton books, and autographed best-sellers by Fannie Flagg, Patricia Cornwell, Jodi Picoult and Dean Koontz.
There’s also DVD movies/TV shows; ornate children’s picture books, chapter and board books.
The Friends Silent Auction returns with a big variety: A framed collection of authenticated artifacts recovered from the 1956 wreck of the Andrea Doria ocean liner. There’s also a 1938 first edition of “Three Guineas” by Virginia Woolf; “Three Years with Quantrill” told by his scout John McCorkle, written by O.S. Barton, published in 1914; “Football for Coaches & Players” by Glenn Scobey “Pop” Warner; and more. For details about the item or bidding process, call Bill at 417-850-1999.
Proceeds from the sales provide news services and programs for the 10 library branches, Mobile Library and Library Express West.
