Build Your Business with ReferenceUSA and Google

If you’re in business, use marketing data, or just want to improve your digital skills, we’ve got two events to help you.

ReferenceUSA is a premier online research tool for all kinds of business questions. It’s available with a library card on the Library’s website, thelibrary.org/research. There are several ways to use the data so on May 14 a ReferenceUSA trainer will host a free lunch to demonstrate how to use the site to your best advantage.

It provides easy access to details on more than 49 million U.S. businesses and more than 270 million residents. It can provide sales leads, market research, market trends, and research companies you want to work for.

Networking is at 11:30 a.m.; lunch and training is from noon to 1 p.m. at the eFactory, 405 N. Jefferson Ave. Seating is limited. To register, visit www.referenceusa.eventbrite.com, or call 616-0706. Deadline to register is Wednesday, May 8.

On May 21, Google is coming to Springfield with a free, one-day event from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Library Station to help job seekers, small business owners, students, educators and entrepreneurs improve their digital skills. It’s part of the Grow with Google initiative to help create economic opportunity in communities across all 50 states.

“Digital skills are increasingly important in today’s workforce, and Missouri’s libraries have led the effort to help their communities learn. By bringing the ‘Grow with Google’ tour to the Show Me State, we are making a commitment to help familiarize Missourians with the digital tools that are becoming essential to prepare for work and start a business,” said Erica Swanson, Google’s head of Community Engagement.

Google staff will lead hands-on workshops about online marketing for small businesses and more. Attendees can also sign up for one-on-one training with Google staff, and tour demo booths to learn more about Google’s free products for learners and small businesses. Attendees are welcome to drop in for a few sessions or stay all day.

To register, visit g.co/GrowMissouri.
