Four June Programs Highlight Families and Loved Ones with Dementia
The Library seeks to serve everyone in the community, including those with dementia or early-stage memory loss, and the families that care for them. Here are four June programs for information seekers and caregivers.
- Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors. Tuesday, June 18, 6:30 p.m. in the Library Center meeting room B. Aggression, repetition, wandering--these and other dementia-related behaviors can be frightening and challenging to caregivers. Knowing what to do in these situations can help keep your loved one safe. Learn how to respond when someone you care for is struggling with dementia-related behaviors from Alzheimer's Association Community Educator Julia Schreiber. - Memory Café: Space Race. Sunday, June 23, 2 p.m. in the Library Station Frisco Room. Reminisce with Library staff member Tysha Shay about the space race that led to the first moon landing. Presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association, this program is an informal social gathering for those living with early-stage memory loss and their care partners. - Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s. Thursday, June 27, 6:30 p.m. in the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch community room. Does someone you care for frequently misplace things, forget names or get confused about where they are? Join Alzheimer's Association Community Educator Julia Schreiber to learn the 10 common warning signs of Alzheimer's and dementia and explore the next steps in seeking out help for yourself or a loved one. Presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association. Call 883-1974.
- Movies and Memories: Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Sunday, June 30, 1:30-4 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium. Join us for an intergenerational movie screening for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia and their families and friends. Munch on Cracker Jacks while enjoying a series of short baseball film clips. Have some "pregame" fun at 1:30 p.m. with baseball-themed activities and sing the national anthem. Representatives from the Alzheimer's Association will share community resources with attendees if needed. This program is funded by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks Senior Mental Health Grant and presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association.
