Get Ready to Ace the ACT at Strategies Workshop; Celebrate World Refugee Day and Welcome Your Neighbors
This is the time of year high school sophomores and juniors start thinking about preparing for the ACT, the standardized test used for college admissions. Many prep classes come with a fee, here’s one that doesn’t.
Students still have time to sign up for ACT Strategies Workshop from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch. A Missouri State University instructor will provide a useful introduction to the ACT, with emphasis on techniques you can use to maximize your score. To register call 883-1974.

“Every minute, 20 people around the globe leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror,” according to the United Nations, which designated June 20 as World Refugee Day to commemorate the perseverance of refugees. Springfield-Greene County is home to many of those refugees and immigrants seeking a safer, better life.
The Library and Friends of the Library are extending a special welcome for everyone with World Refugee Day events on Thursday and Saturday at the Library Station. Over those days, stop in the lobby and watch the Library’s new Welcome videos recorded in Arabic, Chin, Russian, Spanish and Swahili. The videos star local residents explaining how to use the library services. The videos, part of an ongoing outreach project, were made possible by an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant.
