Find Bargain's Galore at Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 16-20

Shoppers browse for bargains at the Friends of the Library Book Sale. This week begins the big Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale. Are you ready to enter a bargain hunter’s paradise?

Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the E*Plex on the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant Ave. Friends members admitted free, or join that night for $5. Regular sale hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday – Half-Price Day; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Bag Day. Stuff a sack for only $1; or $5 from Better Books. Cash or check only, or use the ATM onsite. Parking is free.

Most adult, young adult, children’s books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks, games and puzzles are just $1. Better books and collectibles in a separate section are individually priced, $2 and up.

The Friends book sale is pure fun. It’s a treasure hunt, where you might find your favorite childhood book, or the missing book to a favorite series, the best-seller you’ve been waiting to read, a classic movie you’ve always wanted to own, a new CD set for $2 that retailed for $15.

You’ll see roughly 37,000 square feet of books and other items neatly arranged on long tables and signs designating genre – mystery, biography, cooking, religious, health, sci-fi, Ozarks, and more. There are separate sections for children’s books and paperbacks, too.

This is quality merchandise. Many people think “used” means old, tattered, damaged. Not true here. Some of the books and other items are brand new or gently used. Some DVDs, CDs and books are still in their original packaging. That’s why the Friends sale is a great source for birthday and holiday gifts. Think: cookbooks, humor or inspirational reading for hostess gifts.

This sale’s unusual finds include 14 boxes of new and vintage Max Brand Westerns; a large collection of vinyl LPs; over 100 role-playing and gaming books including Dungeons & Dragons; the Great Courses lecture series; autographed books by President Jimmy Carter and Walter Cronkite; cookbooks, math books and best-sellers.

The money comes back to you, as library users. The Friends us the proceeds to underwrite major author events, exhibits and monthly concerts; children’s programs and building improvements to supplement property tax funding.
