Library Offers a Winter Lift for Caregivers and Loved Ones

Caregivers and loved ones with dementia-related conditions are invited to share holiday joy and some helpful programs through the winter, including a three-part series in December especially for caregivers.  

Music & Memories: Holiday Cheer
Sunday, December 1, 2-4 p.m., Library Center auditorium.

Hear carolers sing, decorate a sugar cookie, and watch a selection of clips from classic holiday films. Funded by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks Senior Mental Health Grant, and presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association.

Living with Alzheimers for Mid-Stage Caregivers

Tuesdays, a three-part series on December 3, 10 and 17, 1-3 p.m., Schweitzer Brentwood Branch community room.

During the middle stages of Alzheimer's, your loved one may begin jumbling words, have trouble dressing, get frustrated or angry, or act in unexpected ways, such as refusing to bathe. This three-part series with representatives from the Alzheimer's Association will cover helpful strategies for coping with these changes and providing safe and effective care for loved ones. Register once for the entire series. Call 882-0714 to register.

Holiday Horns

Wednesday, December 11, 12:15 p.m., Midtown Carnegie Branch upstairs meeting room.

Take a holiday break with your loved one! Enjoy this concert for all audiences. The Springfield Symphony's Brass Quintet will perform festive holiday music at this annual concert sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Refreshments will be served.

Short Stories on Audio

Saturday, December 14, January 11, February 8, 1 p.m., Midtown Carnegie Branch upstairs meeting room.

Listen to a selection of stories from "The Best Short Stories of Mark Twain." Some basic crafting supplies will be provided for those who want to keep their hands busy, or bring your own. Warm cider will be served.

Radio Heyday Live!

Saturday, February 22, 2 p.m., Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library community room.

 Love is in the air! Performers from Radio Heyday podcast (radioheyday.com) will perform a new, family-friendly romantic comedy in the style of old-time radio. Enjoy an hour of fun, romance and laughs as an audience member for this live performance.
