$108,000 Ball Foundation Grant will Fund Play & Learn Center
The Stanley & Elaine Ball Foundation, managed by Central Trust Company, awarded $108,000 to the Library Foundation to fund a Play & Learn Center at the Library Station. The grant was the result of work by a team of library staffers, said Development Director Melissa Adler.
A total of 59 applications were received this year, and The Library was one of only 15 area, nonprofit recipients of grants totaling $252,000. The Library received the largest grant. Organizations were chosen based on their ability to enhance educational opportunities and /or provide support for disadvantaged children.
The Play and Learn Center will incorporate durable and interactive furnishings, installations and toys paired with The Library's superior children's collection and programs. The area, for children birth to 12, will emphasize the significant role of play while promoting interaction and movement.
Melissa Adler credited Youth Services Coordinator Nancee Dahms-Stinson and Early Literacy Specialist Stephanie Smallwood for their work on the project, and Associate Director Jim Schmidt, Library Station Manager Kim Flores and Library Station Youth Services Manager Phyllis Davis for helping with the grant committee site visit.
