Older Adults Find a Second Home at Their Library Every Day of the Week

One message is clear from the Community Listening Sessions the library has been conducting this fall to gauge customer use and satisfaction: Older adults count on their library to provide a safe, welcoming place, with programs that keep them engaged. We deliver on that this week!

On Monday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. it’s the Senior Social at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch with refreshments and social time. From noon-1:30 p.m., SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging provides a $3.50 lunch and a program, Nature and Rock Art. Use natural materials and pebbles to make a take-home piece of framed art. Call 883-1974.

Take a Tuesday, Dec. 10, stroll with the Walk and Talk Book Club at 10 a.m. in Sequiota Park, 3500 S. Lone Pine Ave. Meet at the pavilion for a 45-minute walk along Galloway Creek Greenway as you talk about what you're reading. Bad weather? Call 883-1974 for alternate location.

Also on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 1-3 p.m. at Schweitzer Brentwood Branch is Living with Alzheimer's for Mid-Stage Caregivers. This second of three sessions with the Alzheimer's Association covers strategies for care and coping with your loved one. Call 882-0714.

The Friends of the Library sponsors Holiday Horns at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, with the Springfield Symphony’s Brass Quintet upstairs in the Midtown Carnegie Branch. Refreshments provided.

On Thursday, Dec. 12, at 12:30 p.m. at the Midtown Carnegie Branch, enjoy refreshments and holiday favorites by the Courthouse Chorale, a vocal ensemble of Greene County officials and staff.

Holiday crafts? At 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Midtown Carnegie Branch, library staff will teach you how to make origami snowflakes and stars. Call 862-0135 to register.

Friday, Dec. 13, from 6-8 p.m. in the Library Center Story Hour Room is Homemade Holiday Crafts. Build a cabin ornament and learn how to decorate clay ornaments with a marbled design. Materials provided. To register call 883-5341.
