There's so Much to Discover at thelibrary.org; Winter Reading Challenge Continues in February; Call Hotline for Closing Updates
The Community Listening Sessions that the library has conducted over the past months have revealed some things that our patrons didn’t know the library offers, either online or in the branches.
One patron said she always goes directly to coolcat.org to search for a book, and never goes to the library website, thelibrary.org, so she never sees all the promos and links to upcoming programs and events, or the New Titles bookshelf, or the link to book a meeting room (Spaces), or the drop-down menu from Library Services. She was missing a lot. We encourage you to spend some time investigating all the places thelibrary.org can take you.

The adult Winter Reading Challenge continues for another month – have you read at least five books from the suggested 15 categories to earn a spiffy mug? You can see all 15 categories at thelibrary.org/readingchallenge, or ask a librarian.
Here are some of the librarians’ book suggestions from the “Recommended By” category: “Dark Corners” by Ruth Rendell, recommended by Stephen King; “From Scratch” by Tembi Locke, recommended by Reese Witherspoon; “The Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro, recommended by Jeff Bezos; “All the Pretty Horses” by Cormac McCarthy, recommended by Brad Pitt; and “The Friend” by Sigrid Nunez, recommended by Bill Gates.

The next iPhone Class for Seniors on Tuesday, Jan. 28, covers Making & Receiving Phone Calls, and Using Siri.
The class is for adults from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday in the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch community room. The first half hour from 1-1:30 p.m. is available for one-on-one assistance. That would be a good time to ask instructor Julie Mahaffey how to bookmark the library district’s website – so you’ll always be able to click on it and see what’s going on all across the library district! The general class begins at 1:30 p.m.
