David Sedaris Event Canceled; Tickets to be Honored at Rescheduled Event
The free event sponsored by the Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Library to see humorist David Sedaris on May 1 at the Gillioz Theatre has been canceled. The Steven Barclay Agency representing Sedaris announced on Monday it is canceling all of Sedaris’ dates through the end of his May 2020 tour.
Barclay cited concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-17) pandemic and the CDC’s recommendation to limit gatherings to under 50 people.
Library staff is working with the Sedaris tour to reschedule the event. Ticket holders should retain their tickets and they will be honored at the rescheduled date, said Gillioz Executive Director Geoff Steele.
The Sedaris tour offered the Friends a discount on the author’s normal speaking fee because it was hosted by a public library and the nonprofit Gillioz Theatre, and on the condition that the tickets were offered to the public for free. The tickets were made available on Wednesday, March 4, and were “sold out” within 15 minutes.
The author’s one-night-only Springfield visit was to be part of the Library’s annual community celebration of reading, One Read.
