Librarians Missing their Young Patrons Find a Way to Say Hello

What do children’s librarians do when the children can’t come to the library anymore?

Librarians, especially those who provide the popular, weekly storytimes to children and families, have been missing their young visitors since all the branches of the Springfield-Greene County Library District closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

So librarians at the Library Station, 2535 N. Kansas Expressway, found a way to reach out and say “Hello!” A team worked remotely to create a video slideshow featuring each library staffer at the Library Station holding up a sign to express their thoughts. Many of them posed with their pets – including horses.

The slideshow’s award-winning musical score, “Hedgehog Café,” was provided by Rick Maxson, a Springfield ukulele player and Drury University associate professor of communication.

The library staff sent its message via Library Facebook and YouTube at video greeting.
