Voting in Greene County

Be Informed -- Hear the Candidates in April Elections Discuss Their Views

To help voters become informed before Election Day on April 6, short interviews with candidates for Springfield Public Schools board of education, Springfield City Council and Springfield mayor aired in mid-March on KSMU Ozarks Public Radio (91.1 FM). A coalition of 10 nonpartisan organizations coordinated by the League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri produced the interviews. Video versions of the interviews can be found on the KSMU website and those of the coalition organizations.

Each candidate was individually interviewed, answering questions developed by the candidate forum coalition.

You can also click on the links below to hear each candidate forum aired on KSMU. For more information, contact Lisa Langley, League of Women Voters, 417-501-6067.

How do I register to vote?

If you meet the following criteria, you can register to vote in Greene County:

Register in person:

You can register to vote in person at any of the branch libraries or at the Historic Courthouse (Room 114). A full list of voter registration sites can be found here. You will be asked to complete a voter registration application and to present a form of personal identification to the deputy registrar. The Greene County Clerk’s office will send your voter registration card to you by mail. For questions about the status of your application, contact the County Clerk’s Office at (417) 868-4060.

Register by mail:

To register by mail, print out and complete the voter registration application. Mail your completed application to the Greene County Clerk’s office. Within 7 days of receiving your registration, the Greene County Clerk’s office should mail verification that your registration has been received and processed. If you do not receive this verification, you should contact the office at (417) 868-4060 to ensure that you are indeed registered to vote. You will receive your voter registration card after voting for the first time.

I may already be registered to vote in Greene County. How do I check?

You can check the status of your registration by using this form, or by calling the Greene County Clerk’s office at (417) 868-4060.

I just moved. Do I need to re-register to vote?

If you moved from one county to another, or from a different state, then you will need to re-register to vote in your new county/state of residence. If you moved before the registration deadline for an election, you must complete your new registration prior to that deadline in order to be eligible to vote a full ballot in your new jurisdiction for that election. If you moved after the registration deadline, you will be entitled to vote a limited ballot, containing only federal and statewide candidates and issues.

If you were already registered and moved to a new residence located in the same county, you don’t need to re-register but do need to update your registration, preferably before election day. However, in this instance, you are also permitted to change your registration address on Election Day at your new polling place. Find instructions on how to locate your polling place further in this document.

I recently changed my name. Do I need to re-register to vote?

After changing your name, you are entitled to vote at one election under your previous name if you notify the election judges of the change. To update your name in the voting record, contact the Greene County Clerk’s office at (417) 868-4060 or complete a new voter registration application and check “Name Change” on the form (see details on submitting a voter registration application in person or by mail above).

When is the deadline to register to vote?

The deadline to register to vote is 28 days prior to any election. For the General Municipal Election on April 6, 2021, the deadline to register is March 10.

How do I find my polling place?

Use this mapping tool to find your polling location. Enter the residential address where you’re registered to vote in the search box on the right side of the screen. Your polling location will be listed below the search box and pinned on the provided map.

What times do polls open?

Polls open in Missouri at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. As long as you are in line at your polling place by 7 p.m., you can vote.

Do I need to present an ID to the poll worker?

Voters are required to present identification at the polling place. The most common forms of ID are a voter registration card or a state-issued ID (such as a driver’s license), but other forms of ID are allowed. If you are registered to vote but don’t have an acceptable form of identification, you can still vote by provisional ballot.

Can I vote absentee?

Information about who is eligible to vote absentee and the process for doing so can be found on the Greene County Clerk’s website.

Where can I find a sample ballot?

When available, a sample ballot can be found on the Greene County Clerk’s website under Candidates and Ballot Issues. You can also find personalized ballot information at VOTE411.org.

Where can I find more information about candidates?

Vote411.org is a voter education website managed by the League of Women Voters. Use their personalized ballot service to learn where candidates running for office in your community stand on the issues.

Where should I go if I have more questions?
