Take the 100 Acts of Community Kindness Challenge March 13-20

The Library is devoting the month of March to neighborliness with guest speakers and a community challenge to commit to acts of kindness -- 100 to be exact.

Experts say that neighborliness and connections can boost your physical and mental health. It can also strengthen the connection we feel to our communities and help us love where we live.

It all starts with Neighboring 101 on Tuesday, March 16, 6:30 p.m. David Burton, county engagement specialist with the Greene County MU Extension Office, will share strategies for connecting with your neighborhood and the benefits you can reap from knowing your neighbors.

In "This is Where You Belong: The Art and Science of Loving Where You Live" on Thursday, March 18, 7 p.m., freelance writer and author Melody Warnick will discuss what it takes  to feel truly rooted in your town or city.

To see both programs, visit thelibrary.org/programs beginning March 2 and March 4, respectively. A link will be shared with registered participants.

Then it's your turn. We invite you to turn the talk into action by taking part in the 100 Acts of Community Kindness Challenge for one week (or more if you're so moved!) March 13-20. If you need some ideas, download a suggested list of 100 acts at thelibrary.org/kindness, or ask a librarian for a copy at any library branch.

Send us an email at imagine@thelibrary.org and tell us what act you, your child or your family did that week, if you witnessed an act of kindness, or if you were the recipient of a kind act. If it's something visual, take a photo! We will share the acts on our social media channels throughout the day on March 20 -- the birthday of the good neighbor himself, Mister  Rogers.
