Now You Can Read 3,000 Magazines with Libby Reading App

Over 3,000 popular magazines are now available to download and read for free on any device 24/7 with the Libby reading app and a library card from the Springfield-Greene County Libraries. They’re accessible from OverDrive at springfield.overdrive.com.

Among the top 15 titles circulating right now are  US Weekly, HGTV Magazine, The New Yorker, Cook’s Illustrated, The Week Magazine, National Geographic Magazine and The Economist.

Digital magazines have no wait lists or holds, do not count towards checkout limits and allow readers to renew their selections. All titles automatically expire on due dates, and there are no late fees.  Library patrons can also download magazines to Libby for offline use. Readers can browse lists of magazines within the app and search by format to find available titles.

We have had magazines digitally with Zinio since 2015. But that was a curated, or selected number of magazines,” says Lisa Sampley, Collection Services manager. “With OverDrive we get more magazines, some being in different languages, which is a plus for us.”

Libby has won fans across the library district since it debuted for patrons in 2017. It seamlessly connects readers with the Library’s digital collection. It offers locally selected e-books, audiobooks and digital magazines including bestsellers and new releases for all ages and in virtually every subject.

This service is compatible with all major computers and devices, iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets and Chromebook™. Through Libby, U.S. readers can also “send to Kindle®.”

OverDrive strives to create “a world enlightened by reading.” Serving a growing network of 73,000 libraries and schools in 88 countries, OverDrive delivers the industry’s largest digital catalog of ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and other content through award-winning apps.
