Book Bargains Coming! Friends of the Library Sale is Sept. 14-18

The Friends of the Library dropped off a box of treasures at the Library Center to show off the kinds of items for sale at the Fall Book Sale. It kicks off at 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, with the Friends Night Preview Sale.

In the box packed for the sale: a vintage, vinyl LP by Peter Paul and Mary, and Stephen King’s “Lisey’s Story.” (“Tell shoppers to get there early, all those bestsellers go fast!” Friends Treasurer Joyce Kastler warned.)

And just to show the variety you’ll find at the sale, there was a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle; a never-opened Ken Burns film DVD set, “The War;” a “Curious George” collection for kids; a 1989 “Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Update ‘89” for comic book collectors; “The Blues Brothers” CD; and a luscious, 317-page “Magnolia Table” cookbook by Joanna Gaines.

Variety and treasures are why the Friends’ fall and spring sales are wildly popular. That, and because most adult, young adult, children’s books, DVDs and CDs are just $1, or $2 and up from the Better Books side.

There are classics, collectible cookbooks, bestseller mysteries, history, military, sci-fi, health, romance – you name it. Love paperbacks? 25 cents! Most items are organized on tables with signs to help if you just want children’s books, or Westerns, or bestsellers by author names.

Friends members admitted free on Tuesday’s Friends Night, or pay $5 at the door to join and shop that night.

There’s no admission for the regular sale:

It all happens at the E*Plex, Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant Ave. Parking and admission are free. Friends accept cash or check only.

Proceeds from the Friends’ sales have helped fun the Library’s Maker Space, Mobile Library, author events, music concerts and the new Library Express East 24-hour library kiosk on the parking lot of the Frisco Building at 3253 E. Chestnut Expressway.
