“A Drury College graduate will become the first full time woman instructor at the 600-man U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis in September.
“Lt. Cmdr. Georgia Clark, who was graduated from Drury in 1962, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Clark, former Springfield residents. She graduated high school at the American Community School in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1958.
“‘I anticipate no disciplinary problems,’ she said Monday during an interview at the home of her parents in Phoenix, Ariz.
“Miss Clark, 31, said she doesn’t know if any other women have applied at the academy, although four other women hold lower administrative positions there.
“Academically, she has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor of science degree in education and physical education from Drury.
“After attending summer school at Arizona State University in 1962, she ‘ran out of money and enthusiasm and remembered the literature a Navy recruiter gave me in college.
“‘I always was interested in international relations and decided the Navy would give me the opportunity to pursue that and learn other skills,’ she said.
“Miss Clark reached the rank of lieutenant commander within eight years. During her 10 years with the Navy, she has had two tours in Washington, D.C., and spent two years in Hawaii as a personnel officer and administrative assistant to the fleet air commander.”
