Need Some Seed-to-Table Know-how? We've Got It Here

Winter’s still in the air, but you can do more than dream about your garden – pick up some seeds and some growing tips at two programs perfectly timed for the Feb. 1 opening of the Heirloom Seed Library at six locations.

Seed packets will be available to check out at the Library Center, Library Station, Midtown Carnegie, Schweitzer Brentwood and Republic branches and the Mobile Library.

Then make plans to attend these programs to get started with these programs provided through our ongoing Seeding A Healthy Life series.

 On Friday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium, it’s Seed Starting 101 for adults.

Get an early start on your spring garden with the Heirloom Seed Library and a Master Gardener of Greene County. Learn how to start your seeds indoors to set your garden up for success in spring and summer.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch, hear pick up tips during  From Seed to Table: Saving, Canning, and Preserving Your Harvest.

As the spring growing season approaches, learn about how you can maximize your gardening efforts through different methods such as seed saving, canning, fermentation, dehydration, storage and organization.

Christina Raley, a gardening enthusiast and active member of the Springfield Community Gardens and Victory Mission Community Garden, will provide information about techniques for minimizing waste and maximizing your gardening game. Learn how your growing efforts can help your family thrive year-round.
